Back-To-School Basket Winner

Riley Smith
Riley Smith of Highlandville won the drawing for a back-to-school basket at the Christian County Library.  He received a basket that contained items including a game, books, and a $15 gift certificate to Wal-Mart.  Riley is six years old and will be home schooled at the first grade level this year.  He likes all the Dick and Jane series books and comes to the library twice a week to pick up more books.  When not reading, Riley likes sports, especially baseball, and fishing.  He also enjoys helping his dad in his cleaning business.

The library will have additional drawings for Fall and Christmas baskets sponsored by Friends of the Library (FOL).  Patrons are encouraged to come in to the library in October and sign up to win a child’s Fall basket, and to come in to the library in December and sign up to win a child’s or an adult’s Christmas basket.

FOL is a nonprofit, volunteer organization that provides funding to the library primarily through two book sales each year.  Funds are used to support various programs and enhancements at the library.  For additional information call the library at 581-2432, or visit the library’s web site at www.christiancounty.lib.mo.us.

APPRECIATION LUNCHEON HOSTED BY FRIENDS OF THE CHRISTIAN COUNTY LIBRARY

On July 16 Friends of the Library (FOL) hosted an appreciation luncheon to thank
FOL volunteers who worked at the last two book sales that were held at the library.  This includes setup before the sale, eight days of the sale, and takedown after the sale.  These book sales could not take place without the time and efforts of many volunteers.  FOL volunteers also assist the library staff at other events and activities throughout the year.   The library staff was invited to join the group in enjoying the lunch provided by Sugar N Spice Catering of Nixa.  FOL President, Elizabeth Barns, presented gift cards redeemable at Barnes & Noble as a thank you to these dedicated volunteers for their contributions to the Christian County Library.   One volunteer, Haroldine Searle, was also presented with a plant as a special recognition for the many hours she donates to FOL while working at the book sales.

Volunteers are always needed.  Joining FOL and participating in book sales, or other activities, provides an opportunity to meet new people and have some fun while helping the Christian County Library meet its commitment to the community.  For only $5 annually an individual, or a family, can join FOL.  Attending a Friday evening “Friends Night” allows members to make their book selections before the sale is open to the general public on Saturday morning.  The next Friends meeting to plan the fall book sale will be held on September 15 at 10 a.m. in the library meeting room.  For additional information contact the Christian County Library at 417-581-2432.
