This mother of three currently works as the activities director of Century Pines Assisted Living just around the corner from the library so she visits the library often. Shelly loves everything about the library pointing out it is so much more than just for checking out books. Craft classes, summer movies for the children, the Summer Reading Program are just a few of the events Shelly and her family enjoy.

Mother's Day Basket Winner
Bev Krummen of Sparta is the winner of the Mother’s Day basket drawing sponsored by
the Friends of the Christian County Library.
This retired mother of one is an avid reader and Knitter. She loves going to the
Christian County Library to pick out books and regularly attends her Quilting group at
the Ozarks Community Center.

Friends of the Library Valentine's Day Basket Winners
An adult basket was also awarded to a Christian County Library patron as well.

Friends of the Christian County Library Christmas basket winners
Gretchen House, age 9 and in the 3rd grade, lives
in Oldfield and was excited to win the child’s Christmas basket sponsored by
Friends of the Library. Gretchen’s
favorite reads are the “Warriors Series” and the “Percy Jackson and the
Olympians Series”. Besides reading, she
also enjoys gymnastics. Her Christmas
basket was filled with books, games, and treats.
Kathy Crowder of Nixa won the adult Christmas basket. Kathy enjoys reading and spending time with
her family. Her favorite books are by
Charles Stanley and Barbara Johnson. She
said she always has a book nearby to read and was looking forward to reading
the books in the Christmas basket and enjoying the other items.

FOL Announces 2015 Back to School Basket Winner
The winner of the Friends of the Library back-to-school
basket drawing was Heather McClain of Ozark.
Her three girls (Autumn, 6th grade, Ruby, 4th
grade, and Ember, 2nd grade) will be sharing the items in the basket
as they start their school year.
Mom and dad also enjoy reading. The family comes to the Christian County
Library at least once a week to select their books. Some of the girls favorite books are: The 26 Story Treehouse, Wild Magic, and The
Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles.
The girls are home schooled, and the library is a great resource for
books on the subjects they are studying.
The next general meeting of Friends of the Library will be
at 10 a.m. Sept. 19 in the meeting room at the library. If not a member of Friends, you can join at

Mother's Day Basket Winner
Michele Dunn of Sparta was the winner of the Mother’s Day
basket drawing sponsored by Friends of the Christian County Library.

Dunn is homeschooling her four children who are currently in
1st, 5th, 6th, and 8th grade. This busy mom also enjoys her flower garden
and playing the hammer dulcimer. She
likes to read books on classical education which uses a three-part learning
process. Her children like coming with
her to the library to check out their books.

FOL announces Easter basket winner
Jesse is 12 years old and in sixth grade at Sparta Middle
School. He enjoys reading a variety of
subjects and playing video games, especially Mine Craft. While at the library he not only checks out
books, but also checks out movies.
Winning an Easter basket has been a family tradition. In 2011 Jesse’s sister won the Easter basket.
The first book sale of the year sponsored by Friends of the
Library will be held April 11-18. Funds
from these sales are used to help support programs, events, and activities at

2015 Valentine Basket Winners
The winner of the Friends of the Library (FOL) Valentines’
Day children’s basket drawing is Marissa Sartor. Marissa is nine years old and in 4th
grade at East Elementary in Ozark. Her
family moved to Ozark one year ago from Michigan. Marissa and her mother, Lisa, are the readers
in the family. They love to come to the
library to check out books. Her mother
said that when the whole family comes to the library, some of the family
members borrow movies instead of books. Marissa’s
favorite book is The Snow Day. Marissa is currently reading a book titled The Mouse and the Motorcycle . She can
hardly wait to see how it ends. She says
that sometimes a book may start out boring, but once she gets into reading it,
the book turns out fun.
The winner of the FOL Valentines’ Day adult basket drawing
is Carlie Gibson from Sparta. Carlie
just turned five years old and is looking forward to starting school next year.
Her two older sisters sometimes read to
her. She enjoys books from the Junie B. Jones and Heloise series. She also likes to play games on her
e-tablet. Carlie and her sisters enjoy
coming to the library to check out books and to participate in the summer
reading program. When asked why she put
her name in the drawing for the adult basket, she said she was eyeing the
chocolate for herself. Mom, Jill, can
have the rest of the items.
The next general meeting of FOL will be held Saturday, March
21, at 10:00 at the library. Not a
member of Friends! A yearly individual membership
is $6.00 and a family membership is $10.00.

The Friends of the Christian County Library (FOL) would like to thank our customers for shopping at our Fall book sale October 18-25. Your support enables FOL to fund programs and events at the library such as International Game Day on November 15. Also a big thank you to our volunteers who sort donations throughout the year and set up, run, and take down the twice a year book sales. Our next FOL book sale is scheduled for April 11-18, 2015. We are now accepting donations of books, magazines, puzzles, and audiovisuals for this sale.

The Christian County Friends of the Library will host their fall book sale in October in the Netzer Room at the Christian County Library. Most items are priced $0.50 to $1.00. Cash and checks accepted. Items for sale include books of all kinds, videos and DVDs, puzzles, magazines, and more. Want first pick? Friends of the Library members are invited to a preview sale on Friday, October 17th, 6:00-8:00 p.m. Get an annual membership at the door, or in the library anytime, for $5.00 per family. The public sale is open during the following times:

FOL BACK-TO-SCHOOL BASKET WINNER
Noah Grisaffe, 6 years old from Ozark, won a backpack filled
with school supplies. His mom, Amy, said
that this was the first thing he had ever won.
The drawing was sponsored by Friends of the Christian County
Library. In August Noah will be entering
first grade at North Elementary. While
attending summer camp, one of the field trips that Noah enjoyed was coming to
the library for story hour. He especially
likes books on dogs, firemen, policemen, and the Army.

Friends of the Library names Father’s Day basket winner
James Scott from Sparta was the winner of the Christian
County Library Father’s Day gift basket sponsored by Friends of the Library. The basket was a tool box filled with items used
by dads along with two books.
James is retired and now enjoys working on and driving his
1949 Studebaker ¾ ton pickup truck and 1960 Studebaker Lark sedan. He also belongs to a Studebaker club and the
American Truck Historical Society. He
likes to read novels by John Grisham and Elmore Leonard and detective
stories.
When asked why he comes to the Christian County Library,
James said it was to read magazines he doesn’t receive at home, to check
reference books on subjects like Photography, and to see what new books are now
available. He and his wife, Pat, come to
the library about once a week.
FOL also sponsors free movies and refreshments every
Saturday during the summer. Summer
movies will be shown at 12:30 p.m. on June 21, June 28, July 12, July 19, July
26, and August 2. Contact the library at

FALL BASKET WINNER
Kelly Thomas, 21 months, of Ozark was the winner of the
Friends of the Christian County Library fall basket. Kelly was dressed in her Halloween costume
and was full of smiles upon receiving the basket and a purple book bag. Parents, Brian and Richelle, read to Kelly
from her favorite books on fairy tales, nursery rhymes, and cats and dogs. Visits to the library are at least once a
week.
FOL is a non-profit volunteer organization that provides
additional funding to the library through two book sales each year. The next meeting of Friends of the Library
will be on Saturday, November 16, at 10:00 a.m. in the library meeting
room. At this meeting there will be a
recap of 2013, discussion of activities for the coming year, and FOL officers
elected for 2014. Join Friends for only
$5 a year for a family membership and attend the meeting to share ideas on

BACK-TO-SCHOOL FOL BACKPACK WINNER
Trace Baxter from Highlandville won a backpack filled with
school items in the latest drawing at the Christian County Library. The drawing was sponsored by Friends of the
Christian County Library (FOL). Baxter’s
mother, Ericka, submitted his name. Trace is 4 years old and will be entering
pre-school at Highlandville Elementary along with his sister, Adelynn, who is
in 2nd grade. His favorite
books are about Toy Story characters, like Buzz Lightyear and Woody, and he
also enjoys playing on an IPOD. Trace
has been attending Story Hour every week at the library and was also enrolled
in the Children’s Summer Program. The
Magician who performed this summer was a big hit with Trace.
Look for the FOL booth at Reading Around the Square on
September 14. Drawings will be held at 2
p.m. for a basket appropriate for an elementary student, a middle school student,
and an adult. FOL will donate one dollar
to Reading Around the Square for each person who enters the drawings.

JULY 4TH Basket Winner
Winning the July 4th basket at the Christian
County Library was a “blast” for Cody Campbell from Sparta. His name was submitted by his mother,
Jillian. The prize, provided by Friends
of the Library, was a plastic storage container filled with books, games, and
summer toys. Cody is 6 and will be
entering 1st grade this fall at Sparta Elementary. He has been enjoying this summer reading his
favorite books on Curious George and Dr. Seuss, playing video games, and
swimming. His mom brings him and his
sister to the library where he takes out 10-15 books at a time.

Father’s Day Gift Basket Winner
Rodney Wyman from Ozark was the winner of the Christian
County Library Father’s Day Gift Basket.
These seasonal and special occasion baskets are sponsored by Friends of
the Library.
Rodney’s wife, Dawn, entered his name in the drawing. He has two daughters and three
granddaughters. The granddaughters were
so excited to be able to surprise their grandpa with this basket filled with
items he can use while he works on his blue and white Corvette and his Harley
Davidson motorcycle. He also has been
teaching his granddaughters archery.
Rodney orders his library books on-line and some of his favorite reading
topics are on guns, wars, and hunting.
His family also said he likes to build things by reading how-to books.
