CHRISTMAS BASKET WINNERS

Hayley Ross, age 10, of Spokane won the child’s Christmas basket sponsored by Friends of the Library (FOL).  Hayley is homeschooled and is at the 5th grade level.  Her mother, Mandie, said that the library is a great resource for finding information on subjects to study.  Hayley enjoys riding her two horses, Spartan and Zimby.  She reads the Pony Pals series and other stories about horses. 



Marge Demorast of Fremont Hills received the adult Christmas basket.  She is a retired home economist who enjoys playing golf, bridge, and mahjong.  Her favorite books are mysteries, especially by authors David Baldacci and Robert B. Parker.  She finds the library convenient and the people who work at the library very helpful when looking for specific books.


FOL is a non-profit volunteer organization dedicated to providing additional funding for the library’s various reading programs and activities.  The next FOL general meeting will be in the library’s meeting room on March 15, 2014, at 10:00 a.m.  A family membership is only $5 a year.  Contact the library at (417) 581-2432, or www.christiancounty.lib.mo.us, for more information.

FALL BASKET WINNER

Kelly Thomas, 21 months, of Ozark was the winner of the Friends of the Christian County Library fall basket.  Kelly was dressed in her Halloween costume and was full of smiles upon receiving the basket and a purple book bag.  Parents, Brian and Richelle, read to Kelly from her favorite books on fairy tales, nursery rhymes, and cats and dogs.  Visits to the library are at least once a week.  


FOL is a non-profit volunteer organization that provides additional funding to the library through two book sales each year.  The next meeting of Friends of the Library will be on Saturday, November 16, at 10:00 a.m. in the library meeting room.  At this meeting there will be a recap of 2013, discussion of activities for the coming year, and FOL officers elected for 2014.  Join Friends for only $5 a year for a family membership and attend the meeting to share ideas on supporting the library’s programs and activities.  Questions?  Contact the library at 417-581-2432, or on the web at www.christiancounty.lib.mo.us

Members Only Sale. Memberships can be purchased for $5.00 per family at the sale or at the library during library hours.

Half Price Sale: Books on Thursday and Friday, Oct. 17 and 18, 2013 will be half off the sale price.

Bag Day:  On Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013, $2.00 for a plastic grocery bag of books


Cash and checks are accepted.
We also sell memberships to FOL and FOL shirts and book bags.

BACK-TO-SCHOOL FOL BACKPACK WINNER



Trace Baxter from Highlandville won a backpack filled with school items in the latest drawing at the Christian County Library.  The drawing was sponsored by Friends of the Christian County Library (FOL).  Baxter’s mother, Ericka, submitted his name. Trace is 4 years old and will be entering pre-school at Highlandville Elementary along with his sister, Adelynn, who is in 2nd grade.  His favorite books are about Toy Story characters, like Buzz Lightyear and Woody, and he also enjoys playing on an IPOD.  Trace has been attending Story Hour every week at the library and was also enrolled in the Children’s Summer Program.  The Magician who performed this summer was a big hit with Trace.

Look for the FOL booth at Reading Around the Square on September 14.  Drawings will be held at 2 p.m. for a basket appropriate for an elementary student, a middle school student, and an adult.  FOL will donate one dollar to Reading Around the Square for each person who enters the drawings.

JULY 4TH Basket Winner



Winning the July 4th basket at the Christian County Library was a “blast” for Cody Campbell from Sparta.  His name was submitted by his mother, Jillian.  The prize, provided by Friends of the Library, was a plastic storage container filled with books, games, and summer toys.  Cody is 6 and will be entering 1st grade this fall at Sparta Elementary.  He has been enjoying this summer reading his favorite books on Curious George and Dr. Seuss, playing video games, and swimming.  His mom brings him and his sister to the library where he takes out 10-15 books at a time.

Father’s Day Gift Basket Winner



 Rodney Wyman from Ozark was the winner of the Christian County Library Father’s Day Gift Basket.  These seasonal and special occasion baskets are sponsored by Friends of the Library.
Rodney’s wife, Dawn, entered his name in the drawing.   He has two daughters and three granddaughters.   The granddaughters were so excited to be able to surprise their grandpa with this basket filled with items he can use while he works on his blue and white Corvette and his Harley Davidson motorcycle.  He also has been teaching his granddaughters archery.  Rodney orders his library books on-line and some of his favorite reading topics are on guns, wars, and hunting.  His family also said he likes to build things by reading how-to books.

FOL GIVES AWAY MOTHER’S DAY BASKET


Becky Miller of Nixa was the winner of the Friends of the Christian County Library Mother’s Day basket.  Becky works at United Healthcare and is the mother of two grown children.  She and her husband come to the library about every two weeks and enjoy picking out books on a variety of topics such as historical romances and mysteries, biographies, Amish living, quilting, and books on tape.   In the past six years she has checked out over 560 books from the library.  Her husband’s total is probably equally as impressive.

The next basket drawing will be for a Father’s Day basket.  Friends of the Library sponsor these drawings throughout the year.  FOL’s fundraising activities include two book sales each year.  The next book sale will be held October 12 through the 19.  Donated hardback and paperback books, DVDs, CDs, and audio books for the sale are being accepted at the library.  Funds are used to support the summer reading programs, various events, and enhancements to the library.

CHRISTIAN COUNTY LIBRARY SPRING BOOK SALE Sponsored by Friends of the Library



Friends Night Preview Sale is Friday, April 12, 6:00-8:00 p.m.  This is a member only sale.  Yearly memberships can be purchased that evening for $5.00 per family, or anytime by visiting the library.

Sale runs Saturday, April 13, through Saturday, April 20.
Hours are:
Monday, April 15, through Thursday, April 18, noon–8:00 p.m.
Friday, April 19, noon–5:00 p.m.
Saturday, April 13 and 20, 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m.


Prices start at 50 cents for paperbacks and $1.00 for hardbacks, music, and movies.
Books, magazines, etc. will be half price on Thursday and Friday, April 18-19.
On Saturday, April 20, a plastic grocery bag of sale items will be $2.00

Admission is free.  Take time to stock up on books for your summer reading.

EASTER DRAWING AT CHRISTIAN COUNTY LIBRARY




Levi Cooper from Ozark was the winner of the Easter drawing at the Christian County Library.  Levi is 12 and in the 6th grade at Ozark Upper Elementary.   He enjoys playing football and basketball and board games.  At his church he participates in the Junior Bible Quiz and does very well in local competitions.  One of his favorite authors is Rick Riordan since he likes to read mythology.  When he comes to the library with his mom, Lisa, he checks out books and plays games on the library computers.  Levi has an older and a younger brother to share in his winnings.
